Hi there, I'm Ali the Community Cricket Coach for Sport Caerphilly and Cricket Wales. I coach in local Primary Schools and Cricket Clubs to increase participation. My role is to give children an exciting first taste of cricket, and use school-club links to give them the chance to be involved with a club. If you see me around come and say hi, I like nothing better then talking about cricket!

Cricket Wales is working within each Local Authority to increase the participation rates of junior cricket. The Community Coach initiative is developed and supported by Chance to Shine and Sport Wales. Specifically being targeted are junior players and teams at primary school level, with a big push also being aimed at girls cricket.
The cricket clubs (CC) which are being worked with for the 2012 season are:
In the first year of Caerphilly having a Community Cricket Coach, there was immediate progress with participation and competition. Over 1200 children received cricket coaching, with membership at the clubs increasing. Three new cricket teams were established, with an inter club U9's festival being hosted by Newbridge Cricket Club.
Perhaps the proudest achievement for Sports Caerphilly, were the attendance of two primary schools at the South Wales Asda Kwik Cricket Finals. Cwmcarn Primary School attended the finals of the girls tournament at Tondu CC, having progressed through the regional tournament. Tynewydd Primary School progressed from the boys Caerphilly tournament, to the regional finals including schools in Blaenau Gwent. From here they then qualified for the finals which were hosted at Swalec Stadium in Cardiff.
Caerphilly also supplied the mascot for the recent England vs India One Day International at the Swalec Stadium. Dewi Thomas of Machen CC was chosen due to his commitment and work rate while participating in the program.
