
I am a Netball player myself and currently captaining the Wales National team and Celtic Dragons Super league team. Having worked as part time Netball Officer in Caerphilly for three and a half years I’m just about up to date with the Netball in the local authority though have just started the regional officer role. With this new role, starting on May 3rd 2011, I am still learning the geography of the South East and am responsible for Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly (Islwyn Valley), Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.

Key priorities are discussed, agreed and reviewed by Sport Caerphilly in partnership with Welsh Netball. Our current key priorities are; awareness and promotion of Welsh Netball and the opportunities provided for all to engage, Dragon Sport participation, Secondary School competitive and structured opportunities, developing local clubs and providing coach education continuous professional development opportunities.
we currently have 27 schools as active members of Welsh Netball. As a result many pupils have attended Celtic Dragons games and participated in partnership festivals or events with appearances from the Dragons or Wales team players, others have had further coach education at discount prices.
All schools are active members of Welsh Netball and can take advantage of the benefits this brings, entering events, receiving tickets for Dragons games, inviting players to come in and coach and receiving Coach Education at discounted process. This year saw the first year of the Sport Caerphilly leagues for years 7, 8 & 9.
Crosskeys College currently participate in the Welsh Colleges league played across term time.
Caerphilly has 6 junior clubs: Caerphilly Juniors, Ystrad Mynach, Heolddu, Pengam Blackwood, Newbridge, and Risca. Heolddu are a very new club just this season and as with all our clubs provide opportunities to local netball players to take part in out of school netball. All other junior clubs participate in the South East Junior league hosted by Cwmbran stadium.
Caerphilly has 12 adult competitive and/or social clubs all participating in competitive or social leagues. Abervalley YMCA, Caerphilly Ladies, Blackwood, Cascade Warriors, Cwmcarn, Heath Angels, Newbridge, Rhymney Ladies, Risca RFC NC, Starlets, Trecelyn, Veterans, Ystrad Mynach.
Through all the clubs Caerphilly provides individuals with the opportunities to engage in Netball across a range of age groups from U10’s and younger through to the Veterans.
Caerphilly hosts the A470 Netball league which runs across Caerphilly, RCT and Merthyr. 10 adult teams enter the league each year. This is a development league and the standard is high. The summer A470 moves over to Garth Olwg.
Caerphilly with Welsh Netball organise for Coaching and Umpiring courses from basic level to the UKCC standards to be provided in the local area. All scheduled courses are updated on the Welsh Netball website.
Caerphilly boasts an area for high talent with a number of its players representing their country as Youth internationals or representing Wales for the full team.
