NETBALL DEVELOPMENT - PERFORMANCE

Ystrad Mynach Talent Centre

The aim of the Centre is to develop the skills of players aged between 15 and 19 both as individuals and part of a team, to achieve college, regional or international status. Talented players should be nominated by their coach or school to attend trials for the squad.

Centre members receive quality coaching, regular match play, analysis and the chance to complete nationally recognised qualifications.

Training takes place at the centre of excellence for netball, St Cenydd Leisure Centre, Caerphilly on a Friday between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. At these sessions we monitor training, nutrition and improve technical and tactical skills. Many of our players are in county squads and two players are currently in the U17 Welsh Squad.

Centres of Development

Throughout the season, particularly at our CSSA Netball Tournaments, we observe players from Year 8 and Year 10 and in April invite those with potential to become a member of the Centre of Development at St Cenydd School. Teachers also have the opportunity to nominate players for these trials. Players attend weekly training sessions and receive specialist coaching in attacking and defending play. They play regular matches against neighbouring borough Centre's of Development that assist in county selections.

Ystrad Mynach College Academy

Students at the college have the opportunity to be part of the Netball Academy. Training takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and the team participates in the Welsh Colleges league and Welsh Colleges Tournament.
