Education for Sustainable Development & Global Citizenship International Headteacher Charter and Governor Charter

International Headteacher Charter for ESD & GC:

The ESDGC International Headteacher Charter was developed in September 2006 by our Sustainable Development Headteacher group to encourage headteachers to sign up to make a commitment to ESDGC in their individual schools.

Headteachers have the option of signing up to one of three levels:

  • Standard Entry Level: Signing the charter as a statement of personal commitment. Displays the school name and headteacher name only
  • Enhanced Entry Level: Signing the charter as a statement of personal commitment and to share information and best practice on ESDGC. The school will receive information and communicate with other ‘enhanced entry’ schools. Displays the school name/ headteachers name and contact details.
  • Decline to sign up to the charter

To date 90 of the 93 headteachers in the Caerphilly county borough have signed up to make a commitment to ESDGC.
30 headteachers have signed up to the standard entry level and 60 have signed up to the enhanced entry level.

International Governor Charter for ESD & GC:

The governor conference held in May 2007 on sustainable development and global citizenship lead to a group of committed governors working together with the governor support unit to develop an International Governor Charter for ESD & GC.

The governor charter supports the International Headteacher Charter for ESDGC, encouraging governors to support their schools on ESD & GC projects and initiatives to ensure every school achieves a whole school approach to ESD & GC.

The charter has been launched throughout the Caerphilly county borough. The next steps are to launch it throughout Wales and the Internationally.
