Electoral Services is responsible for the annual publication of the Register of Electors and monthly updates. From the end of August to mid October a Registration form is delivered to every household in the county borough to gather details of any changes throughout the year. It is important to complete and return this form every year even if the details are correct (if there is no change you will be able to use the Free phone service) Notification to Council Tax department does not automatically register you.
You can now Register throughout the year if you move house after the Annual Canvass. Provided a form is completed signed and sent to us by the begining of each month your details wil be updated the following month. Forms can be downloaded from the forms page or contact us to receive one in the post.

Registration is compulsory and only those who appear in the Register are entitled to vote. The Register is also used for credit checks and persons who do not register may not be able to obtain Finance.

Electoral Services is also responsible for the conduct of all elections and referenda held within the county borough. The main duties include the administration of postal and proxy voting, staffing of polling stations, issue of poll cards and ensuring that the elections are held in a fair and democratic manner. Other roles of Electoral Services include maintaining lists of Service and overseas electors and promoting the importance of exercising the right to vote.
