Plans have been drawn up outlining a major £15 million road improvement scheme planned for Ystrad Mynach and the surrounding area.
The road network in and around Ystrad Mynach is set to benefit from a series of improvements to complement the ambitious hospital and council HQ developments taking place in the town.
Ystrad Mynach is located in a key strategic location on the intersection of the A469/A472 and the area experiences heavy traffic flows, especially at peak times during the day. The development of the new council headquarters, together with proposals to build a new hospital in the area, means that highway improvements have become a key priority.
The National Assembly recently announced that full funding of the estimated £15.6 million cost of works has been agreed. The improvements include:
- A new access road into the hospital site from the A469 dual carriageway
- An improved roundabout centered on the existing A469/A472 roundabout intersection together with a new dedicated slip road for traffic traveling between the A472 at Maesycwmmer and the Dyffryn roundabout on the A469
- A remodelled junction through the double roundabouts in the vicinity of the Royal Oak Public House requiring a reconstructed bridge and major culvert works
- Extra lane width and revised junction arrangements in the proximity of the Maesycwmmer traffic signals
An exhibition outlining the proposals has taken place in various venues this month and the plans outlining the proposals can be viewed below.
