Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment

English-Traveller-Survey-Flyer-(1).jpg

Part 3 of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 requires local authorities in Wales to undertake a Gypsy and Traveller accommodation assessment (GTAA) and, where an unmet need is identified, make provision for residential site pitches.

We are currently carrying out our 2021 GTAA and asking all Gypsies and Travellers living in the county borough to contact us before 31 October 2021 by calling 01443 811380 or emailing stratanddevelop@caerphilly.gov.uk.

The last GTAA undertaken by the council was carried out between June 2015 and January 2016, in accordance with statutory guidance issued by Welsh Government (see below).  As part of this process the council considered a range of quantitative and qualitative information based on existing data sources and face-to-face interviews carried out with members of the Gypsy Traveller community.  The report below outlines the findings of the GTAA.

The GTAA was approved by Cabinet on the 17 February 2016 and submitted to Welsh Government for approval on 26 February 2016. The status of the GTAA is final following formal approval received from Welsh Government in December 2016.
