Leadership message

Message from the Leader and Chief Executive

"I’m sure, like us, you are shocked and saddened by the tragic events that are taking place in the Ukraine. It is truly heart-breaking to see the terrible human cost of this escalating conflict and we stand in solidarity with the people of the Ukraine during these very difficult times.

You may have noticed that we have lit up Penallta House and BMI in the colours of the Ukrainian flag to show our support. A cross-party formal Notice of Motion is also being considered to demonstrate the council’s support for Ukraine and call for further action and clarity from the government to help refugees displaced by the conflict.

We know many of you also want to help and all Welsh councils are currently working with Welsh Government and the WLGA to ensure a joined-up approach in a collective response.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and we want to assure everyone that we will do everything we can to help.

Cllr Philippa Marsden - Leader of Council  & Christina Harrhy - Chief Executive
