£1.9m luxury expansion opens at historic Llechwen Hall Hotel
Development of a contemporary 24-room guest wing with leisure facilities heralds first phase of a 4-star quality upgrade at the premium South Wales Valley’s hotel and scenic wedding venue.
The owners of Llechwen Hall Hotel, located near Nelson, have unveiled and officially opened a new wing of the destination hotel, bringing the total number of guest bedrooms to 44.
The opening was officiated by Councillor Julian Simmonds, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, and Mrs Karen Simmonds, the Mayoress, in a traditional red carpet and ribbon-cutting ceremony. In attendance were members of the Caerphilly Tourism Association, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Rural Development Programme team, Visit Wales, local media, private investors, and a large number of the hotel’s team.
Guests were given a tour of the new 2-storey wing and shown a selection of the 4-star quality designer bedrooms featuring air-conditioning, Juliette balconies, high-end furniture and memory foam beds, spacious bathrooms with spa-style rain showers, handcrafted Welsh fabrics and artwork, USB ports and unlimited WiFi. The tour concluded with a champagne reception and canapés in the wing’s new lounge bar, with scenic bi-fold doors opening on to a peaceful, enclosed Welsh slate terrace.
As part of the expansion, a spa, treatment rooms, and gym will open to guests in early 2020. The original building and 20 guest bedrooms will undergo further refurbishment to 4-star quality, while the period lounge bar will receive a contemporary yet sympathetic remodelling, with the current reception being removed to create a link directly into the new wing.
The current expansion and future development will create up to 25 new jobs across the business, and provide opportunities for young people wanting to embark on a career in hospitality.
The development of Llechwen Hall has been supported by a £409,000 investment from the Micro & Small Business Fund, through the Welsh Government Rural Communities Rural Development Programme 2014–2020, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and Welsh Government. Coupled with private investment, the development programme totals £1.9m
Amar Gor, Llechwen Hall’s owner and Business Development Director, said
“Llechwen Hall’s success and ongoing development has always been thanks to a passionate and dedicated team. We could not be more proud to unveil the new guest rooms and facilities that celebrate our Welsh surroundings, heritage, hospitality, and producers. We’re dedicated to supporting our local community, and to encourage tourism to this beautiful region. Everyone at Llechwen is excited to embark on the next stage of its journey and ever-evolving history.”
Cllr Simmonds, Mayor, added “It gave me great pleasure to officially open the new extention at Llechwen Hall Hotel.  The owners of Llechwen Hall have worked in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council for a number years, as part of the Cwm y Mynydd Rural Development Programme.  As well as enhancing tourism opportunities within the Caerphilly county borough, this additional investment into Llechwen Hall also brings welcome news for the local economy; with the creation of new job opportunities and support for local suppliers.”
