Caerphilly county borough spreads Christmas cheer

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Operation Santa Appeal has once again received a phenomenal response from residents, school and businesses.
A staggering 3000 presents have been donated this year for over 700 children across the county borough who have been nominated by their social workers to be at risk of not receiving a gift this Christmas.
The appeal, which opened to the public in November, already had a number of businesses signed up to participate; these included Creditsafe, General Dynamics, ACT Training Ltd, Robert Price, Link Financial, Ecolab and many more. Gifts have also been donated by Cwrt Rawlin Primary, Machen Primary and Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili.
Chris Robertson, UK CEO of Creditsafe said, “Creditsafe are very excited to once again be taking part in Operation Santa for the 9th consecutive year. This year we have two new offices contributing to this amazing cause - our London and Manchester offices have joined our Caerphilly and Cardiff Bay offices to donate Christmas presents to children in care across Caerphilly county borough. Our staff look forward to helping out the local council in Caerphilly all year, and are thrilled to say we have jointly contributed over 900 gifts this year. We are aiming to help as many children as we can in providing each child with a present at the most magical time of the year.”
A large contribution was also made by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Members who donated £1100 towards gifts and selection boxes.
Volunteers will now help sort the mountain of gifts into age categories in preparation for delivery to the children in time for Christmas.
In addition to the gifts, a number of hampers containing food items for the Christmas period have been donated to the young adults who have recently left the care system and are now living independently. Hengoed Primary, Trinity Fields, Blackwood Comprehensive and Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni have all contributed towards these.
Cllr Carl Cuss, Cabinet Member for Social Services said, “Our Operation Santa Appeal would not be successful or even possible without the kindness and generosity of our residents, schools and local businesses. I would like to thank everyone for supporting this worthy cause and for giving every child in Caerphilly county borough the opportunity to celebrate Christmas the way every young person deserves to.”
