Lewis School Pengam’s annual Christmas lunch took on a different slant this year with a special event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the start of WW2.
To help festivities, two former pupils Geraint Barnes and Colin Bourdiec, both professional entertainers volunteered their services for which the school and the Caerphilly over 50’s forum who sponsored the event were very grateful.
Colin is the UK’S leading George Formby impersonator and Geraint under his stage name of Ricky Hunter is one of the leading WW2 entertainers in the country. The event was also supported by the Royal British Legion and their representative, James Kerby was on hand to give Poppy emblems to all that attended. The proceeds from the lunch are to be donated to the Royal British Legion.
Head Teacher Chris Parry said, “It is always a pleasure for us to host Community events, particularly when the cause, The Royal British Legion, is one we hold close to our hearts; it’s also wonderful to see our pupils, past and present, involved in such a celebration. Hopefully this will be the first in a long line of events that the school and the over 50’s forum will be involved in.”
It was a star-studded affair with Cllr Julian Simmonds, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Mayoress present along with Cllr Barbara Jones.
Chairperson of the Caerphilly over 50’s forum Ralph Stevens added “It was a pleasure to be involved with this event, it was particularly pleasing that so many groups from around the borough were able to make the lunch these included forum members, Carers, Trafalgar Park Care Home, Stroke group and Church groups”
