Cllr Kevin Etheridge wins prestigious local government award

Councillor Kevin Etheridge who represents the Blackwood Ward on Caerphilly County Borough Council has won the Community Champion Award at the Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) and CCLA Awards.

The annual LGIU and CCLA Councillor Awards is the only national awards ceremony that celebrates the vital work of individual councillors across England and Wales. The 2021 shortlist showcased 48 exceptional councillors who are true champions for local government and their communities. The winners were unveiled on Wednesday 1 December and were streamed live on YouTube.

The annual Cllr Awards is now in its 12th year and has continued to celebrate the best of local government. As communities continue to recover from the pandemic, these Awards are a hugely important way to champion what local councillors do for their communities.

Competition was particularly tight this year with over 400 nominations received for the seven categories. The winners were selected by a group of judges that included senior councillors and leading stakeholders from across the sector.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Leader of Council said: “We are incredibly proud of Cllr Etheridge in winning this award. He was up against the best local government councillors across England and Wales, and it is only fitting that his commitment and hard work in the community is recognised nationally. Well done.
