Another successful Operation Santa Appeal for 2021
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Operation Santa Appeal has once again received a phenomenal response from residents, schools and businesses.

This year, our Operation Santa Appeal had to adapt due to the ongoing pandemic. As a result, we were unable to accept gift donations and asked that residents instead pledged a gift voucher or cash. Social Workers who were in direct contact with the families have since purchased the gifts and have delivered them to the children in time for the big day.

Over £13,000 was donated to our online donation page and 400+ gift vouchers were received this year for over 600 children and supported young people, aged from newborn babies to 18 years old who are leaving care, across the county borough who have been nominated by their social workers to be at risk of not receiving a gift this Christmas.

The local authority also received over 1,000 gift donations by a number of businesses which were provided to five local charities; Platform, Homestart, Llamau, Action for Children and Ty’r Fesen homeless centre.
The appeal, which opened to the public in November, already had a number of businesses signed up to participate; these included Creditsafe, Link Financial, Tesco Ystrad Mynach, Asda Caerphilly and many more.

A large contribution was also made by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Members who donated £870 towards vouchers and selection boxes.

Staff worked hard to sort all of the vouchers and gifts on Friday 3rd of December, organising all of the donated gifts into age categories in preparation for delivery to the children in time for Christmas.

Cllr Shayne Cook, Cabinet Member for Social Services said, “Our Operation Santa Appeal would not be successful or even possible without the kindness and generosity of our residents, schools and local businesses. Similarly to last year, 2021 has been extremely difficult for everyone and because of that, it was more vital than ever to ensure that children received a gift this Christmas; thank you to everyone for supporting this worthy cause.”

With special thanks to HSBC Caerphilly, Islwyn Lodge of the Freemasons, Caerphilly Lions Club, Ceris Rees, Hayley Gauden, Craig Coombs, Boys from the Brad, Dust and Things and many, many more.
