Keep household waste to a minimum during the festive season
Posted on : 15 Dec 2021
We generate more waste at Christmas than any other time of the year, so it’s the more important than ever that we all try to recycle where we can.
From our increased food waste, to wrapping paper and cardboard boxes, there is plenty of waste that can be recycled. Here are some of our helpful hints and tips to ensure keep household waste to a minimum during the festive season.
1. We create a lot more food waste at Christmas than at other times of the year, so it's important to make sure we're recycling all we can.

2. Did you know not all wrapping paper can be recycled?
To ensure your wrapping paper is recycled this year avoid paper with foil or glitter on it and always look out for the recyclable logo.
3. During the festive season we create more waste than any other time of year so it’s a prime opportunity to recycle everything we can at home.
Did you know, any recycling that doesn’t fit in your recycling bin can be left in clear plastic bags for collection?
4. Did you know we use more cardboard over Christmas than at any other time of year?
Remember to break all cardboard boxes down before putting them into your recycling bin, ready for collection.
5. Most cards are paper based and can be recycled, along with their envelopes.
Any embellishments such as ribbons or glitter cannot be recycled so should be removed first by simply tearing off that section.
6. Your ‘real’ Christmas tree can be disposed of at your local Household Waste and Recycling Centre or can be cut up into manageable pieces and placed out on the kerbside for collection.
