Leader’s pride in Caerphilly free school meals service
Posted on : 12 Jan 2021
Cllr Philippa Marsden, Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, has issued a statement in response to considerable national and local coverage received today on its free school meal initiative.
“We are delighted and proud to be leading the way in the UK with our free school meals offer and to be held up nationally as an example of best practice.” Said Cllr Marsden.
“From the onset of the pandemic last year we were determined to do the right thing and ensure that no pupil went hungry while schools were closed, as well as during holidays. It’s been incredible to see this service evolve and, incredibly, we have now delivered over 1.16 million meals to 5,456 children.
This initiative really has been testament to the strength of Team Caerphilly and I’d like to thank our suppliers and the army of staff and helpers, who we mobilised over the past year, to deliver this extraordinary service.”
