New boxing club opens
The Deputy Mayor of Caerphilly county borough council has officially opened a new boxing club in the heart of Caerphilly town centre
Cllr Mike Adams was invited to cut the red ribbon at the new venue, which is housed in a former council-run day centre. The new club is located in an ideal position within the car park next to Caerphilly Train Station and it is hoped that it will attract lots of new members.
The club has been established by Cllr Jon Scriven, who is also the ward member for Penyrheol. “Today is a big day for us as we launch the new Caerphilly Boxing Club and we are delighted to welcome the Deputy Mayor to help us mark this special occasion,” said Cllr Scriven. “I have had a passion for boxing all my life and as an ex-amateur boxer I have now turned my hand to coaching.”
“I love supporting grass roots boxing and we are actively welcoming new members. I would encourage anyone interested in the sport to come along and find out more about what’s on offer at this exciting new club, which I’m sure will bring many benefits to the local community.”
