Local suppliers help ensure free school meal service continues throughout Summer Holidays

Over recent months, Caerphilly County Borough Council have been working in close partnership with local suppliers who have helped support the free school meals initiative.
Castell Howell Foods, Woosnam Dairies and W R Bishop have helped supply fruit, vegetables, desserts, milk, bread and much more to over 5000 children across the county borough. Free school meals will continue to be delivered to residents over the Summer Holiday period.
Just hours after the school closures were announced on Friday 20th March, Caerphilly Council’s Catering Team leaped into action working with staff and suppliers to create a system to ensure that every child in receipt of free school meals would receive 5 healthy and balanced meals every week.

Cllr Barbara Jones, Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement said, “I’d like to thank all of our catering staff, suppliers and volunteers who have gone above and beyond in ensuring that the free school meals, whom many residents rely on, have been delivered without a hitch. The service provided has been exceptional and feedback from residents has been fantastic. Keep up the good work, you should all be very proud of your achievements.”
