Trecenydd Footbridge – refurbishment works
Posted on : 10 Jul 2020
As part of CCBC’s ongoing asset maintenance programme, Trecenydd Footbridge will be undergoing refurbishment works comprising repainting the superstructure, addressing drainage issues, installation of a new anti-slip system and addressing corrosion..
The sequence of works will be undertaken in the following stages:
- 13th July 2020: Construction of a temporary approach footpath and an ‘at grade crossing’ on the A469. The footbridge will remain open to pedestrians during this phase. Access to the temporary crossing will be via St Cenydd close and an unnamed footpath running parallel to the A469 and The Crescent.
- 17th July 2020: Closure of the footbridge to pedestrians and diversion to the grade crossing enabled. This crossing will be signalised with 24 hour emergency call out.
- 17th July 2020: Temporary removal of the footbridge and access ramps for works off site. The removal of the structure will be undertaken via an overnight closure and diversion of the A469 between Trecenydd and Pwllypant Roundabouts on the Friday 17th July commencing from 22:00 until 9:00 am Saturday morning. Refurbishment works will then be undertaken off -site.
- 22nd August 2020: Reinstatement of the footbridge and access ramps via an overnight closure and diversion commencing on Friday the 22nd August at 23:00 until Saturday 13:00. The extended time on the reinstallation of the footbridge is to allow for safety checks and snagging prior to reopening to the public on the 28th August 2020.
Due to the high volume of traffic using the A469 at this location it is recommended that the temporary removal of the footbridge offsite for restorative works is preferable as it mitigates any need for multiple complex traffic management phases to accommodate these works and provides a consistent crossing point for pedestrians.
The contractor will supply COVID19 systems of works as part of the Construction Phase Plan addressing social distancing, hygiene measures etc. Site works will not be allowed to commence until the above have been addressed.
We appreciate the impact the construction works will have on both traffic flows and pedestrians and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.
