Pwll-y-Pant Roundabout Update (29/06/18)
Posted on : 29 Jun 2018
Work continues to progress well on the Pwll-y-Pant roundabout improvement scheme in Caerphilly. Once completed, these major works will significantly improve capacity and reduce congestion at this key strategic junction in the future.
The council and its main contractor, Walters UK Ltd, have responded to concerns from the community over recent months and have agreed a number of positive changes to the contract in order to limit disruption and ease traffic congestion.
The original contract was planned to be completed in October 2018, but the changes have had some impact in the sequencing of works, which has lengthened the programme.
“We are currently working closely with the contractor to finalise a detailed work programme which will take us up to the completion of the scheme,” said Cllr Sean Morgan, Deputy Leader of Council. “We are fully aware of how important the pre-Christmas period is for local businesses, so for any works required during this period we are looking to ensure two lane operation is in place during the day to minimise any impact on the travelling public, shoppers and businesses.”
“As soon the detailed programme is finalised in the coming weeks we will communicate this information to residents and the business community. We will also be considering measures to support businesses during the Christmas period,” he added.
The council would also like to remind motorists that traffic arrangements will need to revert to single lane operation during August to allow essential works to be undertaken. Traffic tends to be lighter during the school summer holidays and major events such as the Big Cheese would have already taken place.
