CCBC signals return of library service

Caerphilly county borough council has announced plans to re-introduce its library service provision in a phased approach over the coming months.
Ongoing coronavirus restrictions led to the closure of all library buildings across the county borough back in March, but the council is keen to see elements of the service back up and running as quickly as possible.
The first phase will see the re-introduction and an extension of the ‘LibraryLink’ community outreach service for vulnerable people across the area. The book lending and delivery service will be available direct to the doorsteps of many residents who are currently isolating at home.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Philippa Marsden said, “I’m sure the whole community will welcome this news and understand that we need to reintroduce our library service in a cautious, phased approach. Our Library buildings will remain closed for the time being as we consider how we can safely reopen these popular facilities as part of subsequent phases in the future.”
The LibraryLink will initially support the following key groups:
- All residents who have received a shielding letter – regardless of age
- Residents over the age of 70 and who have no access to eBooks and other digital services
- Current registered users of the LibraryLink service
- It is anticipated that the service will commence in July and further details, including information about how residents can sign up for the scheme, will be announced by the council over the coming weeks.
All collections and deliveries by the LibraryLink service will follow strict COVID-19 guidance based on the current information received from the Welsh Government and Public Health Wales.
It is likely that the following phase will be a ‘order and collect’ service operating from a limited number of sites, but we are still working through the detail of this and further updates will be provided in the near future.
