More town centres to benefit from free public Wi-Fi

Free public access Wi-Fi has been switched-on in Bargoed and Ystrad Mynach helping people to access local and national public services and economic opportunities.
Rhymney and Risca High Street were the first town centres to ‘go live’ with free public Wi-Fi earlier this year as part of Caerphilly Council’s ongoing Council’s ongoing support to regenerate our town centres.
With funding from the Welsh Government Transforming Towns Fund and the former Rhymney Valleys Task Force Fund, the project to install Wi-Fi infrastructure began in 2020 and has seen the preparatory works completed in 7 key towns.
The initiative forms a key part of our Choose Local Campaign that aims to encourage residents to #ChooseLocal and explore each of our key town centres surrounding areas to fulfil shopping and everyday needs.
Residents can connect devices in a vast area in and around the town centre;
Wifi via the FreeCCBCWifi network - The platform will ask you to register your details so you will only need to register once.
Cllr. Jamie Pritchard Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration and Climate Change said, “Town centre public Wi-Fi is an opportunity to draw people back to local town centres as a destination as many people continue to work from home. It aims to promote local shops and services and create a different town centre experience.
Free public access Wi-Fi offers opportunities for people with limited or no broadband to access vital local council, Government and health services and take part in the digital economy.
Over the coming weeks we will see the Wi-Fi ‘go live’ in, Newbridge, Blackwood and Caerphilly.”
