Christmas in Caerphilly 2019
Come and join us in the next series of Christmas events taking place across the Caerphilly county borough.

To get started, Ystrad Mynach Festive Fayre is set to bring Christmas sparkle throughout the town centre on Saturday 16th November from 9am to 5pm.

The fayre will give you an opportunity to start your Christmas shopping early with a fantastic selection of food and craft stalls, whilst you can listen to live music from local schools, choirs and bands, and visit Santa’s Grotto in Siloh Church (£1.50pp, 10am-1pm & 2pm-4.40pm).

Next up, we have Bargoed Ice Rink popping up for a five day stint from Wednesday 20th November to Sunday 24th November, open daily from 10am to 7pm every day. The ice rink will operate in half hourly slots throughout the day, and admission is £3 per person.

While the ice rink is up, Bargoed Winter Fair will return on Saturday 23rd November from 9am to 5pm. Festive stalls, entertainment and funfair rides will bring the town to life, offering a real treat for local residents. St Gwladys Church will be hosting an indoor market with stalls, pop up café, face painting and children’s’ activities from 10am until 4pm on the day.

Caerphilly’s Christmas Lights Switch On will be held on Friday 22nd November at the Twyn Community Centre at 7pm. The event has been expanded to include a ‘Twilight Market’ which is being held between 5pm and 8pm at Castle Court Shopping Centre with stalls selling locally produced crafts, food and drink.

Next on the agenda is the Blackwood Winter Fair which will return on Saturday 30th November from 9am to 5pm.

Whether visitors fancy rewarding themselves with an early Christmas treat or are looking for a unique gift for someone special, they will have the opportunity to browse around the great selection of food and craft stalls. There will be plentiful entertainment for the whole family with a wide selection of funfair rides, as well as festive street characters and street shows!

Caerphilly Christmas Market is set to return to the town on Saturday 7th December to Sunday 8th. This magical two day market, open from 9am to 4pm, is a firm favourite within Wales, being the perfect place to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Experience the sights, sounds and smells of a town and Castle preparing for Christmas with delicious street food, the smell of mulled wine, exciting street theatre and over 100 food, craft & gift stalls.

Additionally, Caerphilly Castle’s Ice Rink is back this year for a month, opening at 6pm on Friday 6th December 2019 and will run until 4pm on Sunday 5th January 2020. Tickets are available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/caerphilly-castle-ice-rink.

The final event to look forward to in Caerphilly this Christmas encourages residents to get ready for magical glows and beautiful lanterns at the River of Light Lantern Parade.

Taking place in Caerphilly town centre on Thursday 19th December, it starts at 6.30pm from Caerphilly Railway Station Park and Ride. The parade will then descend on the town of Caerphilly and finish with a fantastic firework display.

If you would like to get involved in making these magical lanterns yourself, three workshops are being held:
  • Saturday 7th December Wesley Methodist Church, Caerphilly from 10am to 5pm
  • Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th Caerphilly Leisure Centre from 10am to 5pm.
