Caerphilly Council’s major investment to connect people and places
Posted on : 29 Nov 2021
Over the past 4 years, Caerphilly council has invested significantly into transforming routes across the county, improving public access and transport and introducing infrastructure to promote active travel in an effort to connect people and places now and in the future.
The Place Shaping programme has focused a staggering £500m worth of investment in areas across the county and travel infrastructure has been a key part of that with large scale projects delivered such as Pwll-Y-Pant roundabout; public electric vehicle charge points at key locations and improved active travel routes for utility journeys.
Cllr. Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Property said, “We are a forward thinking authority and we are continuously looking for ways to innovate and improve infrastructure. Improving public transport and promoting sustainable travel is at the heart of what we do and working with partners and Transport for Wales to deliver the Core Valley lines Transformation Programme. And we continue to strengthen our partnership with Welsh Government by are developing existing train stations and park and ride facilities in preparation for the much anticipated South Wales Metro system that will transform the way we travel across the Cardiff Capital Region.
He continued, “As a local authority, we remain as committed as ever to connecting people and connecting places from across the County Borough.”
Residents will be asked to play a vital role in helping to shape the proposals, by identifying the missing pieces of the jigsaw to ensure that the council is targeting its investment where it is needed most. Details of how the community can get involved will be announced in the near future.
