News that Caerphilly Castle will come alive with the spirit of Christmas, with the installation of a spectacular ice rink this festive season, has been warmly welcomed by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Deputy Leader.
The ice rink will offer festive fun for all the family, and has come to fruition thanks to a partnership between Cadw, Welsh Government, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Caerphilly Town Council, Castle Court Shopping Centre and a number of other organisations.
Cllr Sean Morgan, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for economic development and tourism said, “We warmly welcome the news that residents and visitors from far and wide will be able to enjoy some festive cheer thanks to the ice rink at the magnificent Caerphilly Castle in the run up to Christmas.
“Our strong partnership with Cadw and others is helping to maximise the existing strengths of Caerphilly to enhance its role as a tourist and retail destination of choice, and builds upon our future aspirations for the town in our Caerphilly Basin Masterplan. It’s small steps, but by harnessing exciting opportunities such as this, we’re taking a step closer to making these aspirations a reality”.
Local ward member Cllr James Pritchard added, “The pre-Christmas trading period is also a crucial one for retailers, and I have no doubt this additional draw to the castle and the town centre will encourage people from across the region to enjoy all that Caerphilly has to offer”.
Families will be able to enjoy the ice rink between 23rd November and 9th December, between 10am and 9pm on weekends and 12pm and 9pm on weekdays.
Visitors to Caerphilly town centre this festive season will also be able to enjoy the annual Caerphilly Christmas Market, which takes place this year on Saturday 8th December and Sunday 9th December. Experience the sights, sounds and smells of a town and castle preparing for Christmas with traditional funfair rides, smells of mulled wine, captivating street theatre and over 100 food, craft and gift stalls
