Get ready for half term fun throughout the Caerphilly county borough

Come along to variety of activities during the October half term throughout the Caerphilly county borough.

To start the holiday period, Blackwood Miners Institute will be presenting the children’s show, Ned and the Whale, on Monday 29 October at 2pm. This show follows the magic and adventure of Ned and the Whale and is perfect for children aged four or over. Tickets cost £5 (£4 concessions) and are available from the venue's box office on 01495 227206 or via the website at

The Winding House will also be hosting a variety of events to keep children entertained. On 31 October children can take part in an ‘Amazing Mummies’ event providing visitors with the tools to draw large scale Egyptian mummies.  This event is free for all and people can drop in anytime between 11am and 1pm.

The next activity will be a Craft Club at the Winding Housing on 2 November, at 11am, and will be focused on the theme of Guy Fawkes and fireworks. This event costs £2.50 per child and anyone attending must pre-book by calling 01443 822666.

There is also a Make a Miner’s Lamp event at the Winding House on 3 November. Run by Disability Can Do, this family activity helps children create Identity miner’s lamps which is run in conjunction with an exhibition called Inevitable. To take part in the activities come along from 11am to 1pm or 2pm to 4pm. Entry is free and booking is not required.

Cwmcarn Forest will also be providing a range of activities including Pumpkin Carving on Monday 29 October from 11am to 3.30pm. This activity will be for ages four or older and costs £5.50 per child. Booking is essential for this event; call 01495 272001 to book your place.

Additionally,  a Vampire Hunt takes place at Cwmcarn Forest on 31 October from 11am to 3pm. Children can follow a spooky trail and receive a prize back at the visitor centre. Entry costs £3.50 per child and includes a prize.

There will also be a Spooky Toddlers and Midi Tots event at Cwmcarn Forest on Thursday 1 November. This craft workshop takes place from 10.30am to 2.15pm, entry costs £2 per child and booking is essential. For further information about their events visit:

At Llancaiach Fawr Manor a range of half-term fun is scheduled including Halloween Activities for Kids from 30-31 October.  Taking place throughout the day, children can expect craft, puppets and a range of fun and games.

Additionally, from Tuesday 30 October to Friday 2 November, Witch Trials in the Manor will be taking place. These trials are part of the ghost tours and can be booked by contacting the venue. Call 01443 412248 or visit for event prices or further information.
