Local community groups collect 10 awards at Wales in Bloom Competition

10 awards have been won by the various Caerphilly Basin voluntary groups at the Wales in Bloom awards in Anglesey.

Wales in Bloom is the regional element of the National Britain in Bloom Competition supported by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Their message is ‘Helping Communities Grow’ to encourage voluntary support that improves individuals’ local environment.

This message falls in conjunction with the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ Campaign in Wales.

The results of the Competition are as follows:

Main Competition:

Friends of Morgan Jones Park Community Allotments won a Gold Award in the allotment category with community volunteer, Elizabeth Thomas, awarded the Norman Stewart Memorial Award for outstanding contributions for volunteering for both 2020 and 2021.

Caerphilly in Bloom group for Caerphilly Town were awarded Silver Gilt First Place in the City and Town category.

It’s Your Neighbourhood Competition:

In the RHS ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ campaign there are five levels of achievement:

Level	Description	Points
Level 1	Establishing	0-35
Level 2	Improving	36-52
Level 3	Developing	53-68
Level 4	Thriving	69-85
Level 5	Outstanding	86-100

Friends of Morgan Jones Park Community Allotments were awarded Level 5 – Outstanding.

Castle View Community Group were awarded Level 4 – Thriving.

St Martins Church Gardening group awarded Level 4 – Thriving.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Waste, Public Protection & Street Scene commented, “It was a pleasure to visit the Friends of Morgan Jones Park Community Allotments and discuss their fantastic awards and community service. This is an outstanding achievement for the groups in light of the Covid pandemic and highlights the importance community groups can play in improving their local towns and open spaces.”
