Caerphilly’s Little Cheese Festival hailed as a great success
The Little Cheese Festival descended on Caerphilly Town Centre on 3rd & 4th September and welcomed a staggering 33,000 visitors through Castle Court Shopping Centre and over 10,000 people through the town centre.

The annual Big Cheese Festival was unable to take place this year due to development works taking place in Caerphilly Castle, but the fun continued with entertainment to amuse everyone. The event hosted three live music areas along with a main stage in Twyn Car Park, bringing a new lease of live to the town for the weekend.

There was an array of food, drink, and craft stalls in attendance as well as the three-monthly markets that take place in the town. All the markets joined forces with the festival to create a bustling town centre which was a delight to see after the past couple of year. Many local businesses opened their doors and created outdoor seating areas to welcome visitors and enabling them to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

This year’s Little Cheese event was a great opportunity for small and local businesses within the Caerphilly County Borough to showcase their talents and services, all of which proved very popular with visitors.

Hear what local businesses had to say about the event:

Glenn, Director, Brew Monster Group said, “This was the first event we have attended in Caerphilly and it was a huge success. We had a great time being part of the event and met loads of happy customers. The event was also a great chance to meet other local suppliers and we look forward to working with them on some exciting new projects in the near future. The event was a success not only in terms of having an outlet in the Twyn car park, but also the increased footfall in the town and brand exposure at the event meant our brewery bar had one of its busiest days since opening. Even better was that many of the visitors coming to the brewery bar hadn’t visited before, meaning we now have many new customers that we hope will return again in the future.”

Calvin Evans from the AVIARY commented, “We were so pleased to be involved in Caerphilly’s very first Little Cheese Festival and wow what a hit!! With our bar on the high street being able to extend our outside seating area for the weekend it helped us provide the public with perfect seating right next to the Green Lady Stage situated outside. The live artists throughout the weekend were outstanding, it truly brought town alive. To have all businesses and traders local and from afar all together working in unison was great to see.”

He continued, “We were kindly asked by the events team if our mobile horsebox was available to be situated at the Main Stage which was an opportunity we simply couldn’t refuse! Being right next to the main stage with phenomenal bands was just a great experience for us. Not only was this Little Cheese Festival a great success for business after the awful past 2 years it boosted moral of our team and uplifted Caerphilly’s spirt. It was a beautiful sight to see people jiving, laughing, drinking with friends and family. We would love to see the Little Cheese make a return to town next year! WELL DONE to all involved, what a great weekend for the town.”

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration & Climate Change, said “I am really pleased with the response to this year’s Little Cheese festival. It was great to see so many visitors and residents out and enjoying themselves after a few years of being restricted due to Covid 19. “It was a fantastic weekend, with excellent feedback from local businesses. The music acts were great, and the general vibe was awesome. I’d like to thank the business community for working so well with us over recent weeks. More events will be coming to the county borough in the upcoming months”.

Over the coming months we will continue to work in partnership with Town Council’s to plan the exciting Winter events programme. We will post information on our website and in local town centres, watch this space.
