Local services 

Gwent Young Person's Specialist Substance Misuse Service (YPSSMS) - Aimed at young people (under 18's) with drug issues. This service provides assessment, advice and information to anyone who is concerned about their drug use. Tel: 01633 436 893

Drug & Alcohol Youth Support (DAYS/CRI) - Provides counselling relating to alcohol or substance misuse with young people aged between 10 and 17 who live within Caerphilly county borough. Tel: 0808 168 7176

Drug and Alcohol Family Support (DAFS) - Provide support and guidance to parents or carers of young people aged under 18 who are misusing substances. Tel: 01495 240824

Support for Siblings of Substance Users (SIBS): Provide support and guidance to siblings of young people under the age of 18 who are misusing substances. Tel: 01495 240824

A-Z of Drugs: Provides a good introduction for raising the awareness of various substances for foster carers.

Facebook 

Events, groups, pages and photos can all be reported as abuse by opening the page, clicking on the gear icon or the options link and clicking report. Messages can also be reported as abuse, by clicking on the options button and choosing report spam or abuse from the drop down menu. Facebook staff will investigate anything that gets reported and since bullying violates its terms of use, any bullying posts or abusive messages will be taken down.

Twitter 

Twitter now has a report button, which means that abusive tweets can immediately be reported via any platform. Abusive users can be reported to twitter using the form available from support.twitter.com. All abuse reports are taken seriously and are fully investigated. Twitter removes the profile of users that violate its terms of service in this way.

Local services 

The Basement Project - Blackwood Basement is an Information Drop-In Centre providing all young people aged between 11 and 25 years, Caerphilly Youth Service and partner agencies with access to information, support and advocacy. Tel: 01495 233007.

Youth Offending Service - There is a Youth Offending Service in every local authority in Wales and England; they are one-stop-shops for 10 to 17 year olds at risk of, or involved in offending behaviour. Tel: 01495 235623.

Sexual Health Prevention Project - Provides support and advice in relation to promoting positive sexual health including contraception, sexually transmitted infection, unintended pregnancy (especially teenage pregnancy), sexual identity, education, information and the need for appropriate services in place to address these. Tel: 01495 235401.

Health Inclusion Project (HIP) - This project works with individuals and their families to support them to make positive lifestyle and behavioural changes in relation to sexual health and smoking. Support is provided via : drop in sessions, group sessions, individual family support sessions and training. Tel: 07854 679583.

  • Teen talk – User manual – resources that can be used with young people (chapters on personal safety, sexual health and behaviour, offending).
  • The Nature of Adolescence – provides an up to date introduction to all the key features of adolescent development (bullying, risk taking, risky behaviours).
  • Cyber bullying – activities to help children and teenagers to stay safe in a texting, twittering and social networking world.
  • Working with anger and young people – informative and engaging resource for anyone working with young people with anger issues (chapters on bullying, gangs and offenders).
