Coronavirus - Schools and community adult learning

Schools across Wales closed on Friday 20th March. This is a Welsh Government decision and we must follow this advice in the interest of public health and the wellbeing of our pupils and staff. CCBC is seeking further clarification about the length of the closure period.

Coronavirus update - Welsh Government announcement regarding school closures:

Free school meals

All children eligible for free school meals who have enrolled with Bridges into Work to receive a frozen meal service will start receiving from Monday 30 March.

Our vehicles will distribute the meals to home addresses across the area and will drop off a week’s supply at a time (5 x frozen meals) for each child.

The distribution will take a number of days to complete. Please refer to the list below to find out which day your child will receive their 5 meals.

Please note: Your delivery day may change as demand increases but we will update the  delivery schedule accordingly.

Staff will observe all appropriate social distancing guidelines and will place the meals on your doorstep, ring or knock then retreat away from the door when you answer. If there is no answer, unfortunately we will not be able to leave the meals at your address.

This is a huge logistical challenge and it is difficult for us to provide accurate timings for the deliveries on each day, so we ask that you ensure you are available to receive deliveries at any time on your specific day.

If you are not already receiving free school meals and think your child is eligible, please email bridgesintowork@caerphilly.gov.uk as a matter of urgency.

Childcare provision

We are accepting applications for childcare for children whose both parents are critical to the COVID-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home. Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be and only where there is no safe alternative should you apply.

The childcare is currently available during term time, Monday to Friday between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm from the following sites (please note we are currently working to understand the demand for holiday provision):

  • Bedwas Comprehensive School
  • Blackwood Primary School
  • Idris Davies School
  • Lewis School Pengam
  • Risca Community Comprehensive School
  • Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni - Gelli Haf

*Please note that all sites cater for primary and secondary pupils.

We endeavour to process and confirm applications as soon as possible, however please allow up to 3 working days. Please do not just turn up to the hub as we need to ensure that children and young people are safely managed.

School Admissions appeals

We are monitoring Welsh Government guidance and currently considering the possible impact of the coronavirus on school admission appeals hearings for secondary school places in September 2020.

Sorry that we cannot give further clarity on this matter at this time and understand the uncertainty is difficult for families however, please be assured that as soon as we have received advice from the Welsh Government we will contact you.

Please email the School Admissions Team at schooladmissions@caerphilly.gov.uk  if you require further information..
