Prosiect Gwyrdd

Prosiect Gwyrdd (Project Green) is a partnership between five local authorities. These are Caerphilly, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The project aims to deliver a regional solution to general waste. In summary, this is the waste left over once recycling and composting has taken place.

Over the years, local authorities have relied on landfill to deal with waste. Managing general waste through landfill alone generates the highest carbon impact.

These facilities operate under very strict conditions. They are heavily regulated by the Environment Agency. Experience shows they work alongside high recycling and composting performance.

Welsh Government have outlined a 70% recycling and composting rate by 2025. They also have plans to be a Zero Waste Nation  by 2050.

Each authority is striving to meet 70% and beyond.
