Green or black general waste bin

Stay Connected

You can now sign up for email alerts to be informed of changes to your bin collection and recycling news. We also offer subscriptions to other council services and news.

Your green bin (or in some cases black bin) is to be used for all day-to-day rubbish that cannot be recycled or composted and is emptied fortnightly.

All waste must be contained within your bin with the lid tightly closed (no side waste will be taken).

Find out what day your bin is emptied

This bin can be used to dispose of the following items:

  • Disposable nappies (We also offer an additional nappy waste collection service for larger families. Visit our nappy waste collection section for details.)
  • Broken glass
  • Carrier bags
  • Broken toys
  • Cooking oil
  • Polystyrene
  • Plastic film
  • Pet waste
  • Cold ash

Please do not use this bin for:

  • Clothing
  • Anything that can be recycled
  • Food waste
  • Garden waste
  • Stones, rubble, soil or building materials
  • Car parts or batteries
  • Engine oil, paint or chemicals
  • Tree branches
  • Asbestos-based materials
  • Hot ashes
  • Anything too large to fit easily in the bin.
  • Clinic waste or hypodermic needles

​Need a new bin?

If your wheelie bin is lost, stolen or damaged, or if you have moved into a property that does not have any bins, you can purchase one online. Request a new wheeled bin, box or garden sack.

Where does the waste go?

Everything you place into this bin is currently taken to Viridor, Trident Park, Cardiff energy from waste facility. Visit the Prosiect Gwyrdd section for details.
