Can I help?
CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) : latest information, advice and support
  • Resident    Adults and older people    Help to live at home    Community alarm

Community alarm

Telecare services (previously known as community alarm) provides peace of mind for people who feel at risk in their own homes.

It is a 24-hour, 365-day monitoring service giving you the freedom to live your life independently knowing that you can obtain assistance when you need it.

The telecare service is able to provide a range of telecare equipment for clients whose assessment identifies telecare as an integral part of a care package.

Telecare equipment includes safety and security sensors such as carbon monoxide detectors, temperature extreme sensors, bogus caller buttons and smoke detectors. Other sensors that can be provided where a need has been identified include bed sensors, fall detectors, epilepsy sensors, enuresis sensors and movement detectors. Telecare can also cover vital signs monitoring and medication reminders.

How the telecare service works

The telecare service works via a special alarm unit connected to the telephone line. This enables you to call for help at any time by pressing a pendant alarm worn around your neck.

This links you to a response centre where trained operators will be at hand to offer you support. This support may be contacting a member of your family, friend, or alerting the emergency services.

Telecare sensors can be linked to a basic alarm unit where more complex monitoring is needed.
