Concessionary travel cards

All senior citizens and disabled people receive free bus travel on local bus services throughout Wales. Disabled people who need assistance to travel may also be allowed to take a companion with them for free.

New Transport for Wales concessionary travel card

Transport for Wales is working with councils across Wales to issue around 750,000 new-style Concessionary Travel Cards by the end of December 2019, replacing all current green coloured bus passes.

The national replacement programme will begin from 11 September 2019 with the new style cards offering the same free travel rights and benefits as the current cards.

Transport for Wales has created a new website www.tfw.wales/travelcards, which card-holders can use to apply for the new-style card, as well as a national telephone helpdesk to support residents through the application process.

Residents are encouraged to apply online or ask a friend, family member or someone they trust to apply online on their behalf.

The national telephone helpdesk number for support is 0300 303 4240. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.

The key message for pass-holders is that there is no need for concern or worry. Current passes are still valid until the end of December, and there is plenty of time and support available to arrange for the necessary replacement.

Residents are advised to apply for their new-style card in plenty of time before the end of the year to ensure they can continue to receive the benefits of concessionary travel. The old-style cards will be accepted until 31 December 2019.
