Choose Bargoed

Bargoed Town Centre is part of the Heads of the Valley Regeneration Area and serves as the principal town for the north of the County Borough.

Bargoed is easily accessible by bus, train and car and offers good transport links to major travel routes, located just 30 minutes from the M4 and with excellent connectivity via the A465 Heads of the Valleys corridor to the West Midlands, West Wales and Ireland.  The town includes a new bus and rail interchange, taking 45 minutes to reach Cardiff by train, and parking is available in a number of convenient locations across the town centre.

Visit our transport and parking section which includes bus, train and taxi information and details of car parks available in Bargoed.

This former mining town has a strong community spirit, and hosts a number of national retailers and supermarkets, together with a range of smaller independent businesses, including a mix of cafes, hairdressers, gift shops, clothing and antique stores, a local post office, and a range of pubs/restaurants and food outlets.  The town has seen the conversion of the Grade II listed Hanbury Road Baptist Chapel into a new library, local history resource unit, Customer First facility and worship space.   A new retail plateau in the centre of town also links the existing high street with the Lowry Plaza retail scheme.

Bargoed Town Council actively supports many of the town's initiatives, together with CCBC’s programme of events held across the town centre throughout the year, including the Bargoed Spring Fair which is a new event for 2023. An exciting new Craft Fair and Market was also launched in April 2023, which will be held in the centre of town on the third Saturday of every month.

Details of the Council’s events programme can be found on the Visit Caerphilly website.

The surrounding area is rich in recreational and leisure activities, including Bargoed Park, Bargoed Woodland Park and Parc Cwm Darran, together with a swimming pool and fitness classes at Heolddu Leisure Centre.  Visitors can enjoy the nearby Cadw-designated Historic Landscape of Gelligaer and Merthyr Common, together with the local heritage sites of Bute Town and the Elliott Colliery Winding House.

Free Wi-Fi has recently been rolled out across the town centre, with visitors able to connect via the ‘FreeCCBCWifi’ network.  Funding has also been secured for Bargoed as part of the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Placemaking programme, which will be allocated towards making improvements to public spaces within the town.
