Ffos Caerffili, Caerphilly
The Ffos Caerffili operational site is located in the heart of Caerphilly Town Centre. This site is strategically located close to the main retail hub, the town’s transport interchange and most importantly the town’s historic castle which acts as a regional tourist attraction.
The project is a cornerstone project within the Caerphilly Town 2035 Placemaking Masterplan. The operation seeks to enhance the night-time economy of the settlement area and also complement the visitor experience to the castle and within the town. This is one of the first projects to be developed within the Caerphilly 2035 Placemaking Plan and will provide the stimulus for further investment throughout the town.
The site of approximately 0.3 hectares gained planning permission for a commercial market comprising of converted shipping containers. The development has two storeys and provides a range of commercial units with an approximate overall gross internal floor area of 427 square metres. Ffos Caerffili accommodates a mixture of A1 (retail), A3 (food and drink) and B1 (office/business start-up) uses.
The project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government with additional investment from the Council and Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Initiative and the operation has also been supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda. A number of market traders have also received additional funding through the Business Development Grant, supported through Caerphilly County Borough Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
