Bedwellty Playing Fields consultation

Caerphilly County Borough Council proposes to dispose of two playing fields within the grounds of the former Bedwellty Comprehensive School, Pengam Road, Aberbargoed, which are identified on the attached plan within the report considered by Cabinet on the 25 April 2018 (hatched in red).

Bedwellty Comprehensive School was closed in 2005 and subsequently demolished, with the playing fields brought back into official use in 2015 to facilitate the needs of a local club as the ground conditions of their previous home ground were unsatisfactory.

In January 2018, the area hatched in blue on the attached plan was disposed of by the Council for residential development. This area of land contained the pavilion which supported the playing fields, but was subsequently demolished as it was not fit for purpose.

There has been extensive positive dialogue with the only known users of the playing field (Fleur-de-Lys AFC) who are keen to return to playing sport within the heart of their community at Trelyn Park, Fleur-de-Lys.  There are currently two pitches at Trelyn Park, both of which are underutilised and so the needs of both clubs can be met using this site and can only enhance and increase local participation in sport.

If you wish to comment about the disposal of this area of land please complete the questionnaire below:

The questionnaire is also available below as a printable version. These should be returned by post to Public Engagement Officer, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Penallta House, Tredomen Park, Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed, CF82 7PG.

All responses should be submitted by no later than 5pm on Thursday 22 November 2018.
