Over the last couple of years we have been asking you, through an ongoing conversation, which council services are most important to you. In turn, you have told us which areas you think we should prioritise. Your views are helping us:

  • Continue focusing our efforts on the issues that you told us most impacted your quality of life (such as dog fouling and littering)
  • Shape our programme of 10 council-wide ‘corporate reviews’ that aim to make sure the council is as effective as it can be.
  • Ensure that the services we deliver are in line with what you and your families most need.

This part of our ongoing conversation is going to focus upon what really matters to you.

Why are we consulting

Like all councils in Wales and across the UK, we only have a limited budget and are facing a gap of £35 million in next year's budget alone. It is hard to appreciate the scale of this amount, but we are fortunate to be in a strong position to face these challenges head-on.

The council has healthy reserves (our savings account), where a proportion of these can be used in the event of a ‘rainy day’. In order that we can protect the things that are most needed and valued by you, we need you to tell us if we’re still on the right tracks – and tell us what really matters to you and your family.

What you tell us will be really important, as we make plans both in developing our council priorities for the next few years and also in making sure we have a balanced budget, which is something we must do.
