Colours and contrast

Colour contrast is an element of a wider set of web standards that is part of the accessibility. This is aimed to ensure that every person, including those with disabilities, are not presented with difficulties that stop interaction with websites.

Low contrast colours will make it hard for visual users to read and/or see the content on the webpage. Colour contrast guidelines indicate that there should be at least a 4.5:1 ratio between the  content and the background content

If your content has a high level of distinction between the text and background, more people can grasp, use and navigate through the content.

The value of colours

Colour is a powerful tool for creating brand recognition, generating trust, providing order, and emphasizing important messaging. Having the right colour palette can help users navigate efficiently, engage in content. If you have the wrong colour palette, or not having one at all can confuse, annoy, and even drive users away.

Colour plays a key role on helping users navigate through the site, driving them past the content clearly and swiftly.

Colour also aids towards structuring a content order, focusing attention on important information and calls to action (CTA).
