Project raises awareness of hidden homelessness
Posted on : 27 Apr 2021
A brief animated video has been produced by Caerphilly County Borough Council which aims to raise awareness of hidden homelessness and sofa surfing.
The project has been produced by the Welsh Government funded HPAD (Homelessness, Prevention, Awareness, Diversion) team, that forms part of the Council’s Youth Service. The team’s main focus is the prevention of youth homelessness.
An educational pack has also been produced, to accompany the video, for use in schools and other youth settings. Funding for the video has been provided by the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership.
As well as raising awareness locally and signposting young people to services available to support them; the project also supports Welsh Government’s national End Youth Homelessness Cymru campaign.
Cllr Ross Whiting, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Learning and Achievement, said “Hidden homelessness is sadly an issue for many young people. This project aims to ensure young people know who to contact if they are at risk of homelessness or are concerned about someone they know. We also hope that by raising awareness amongst young people, we can also help challenge the stigma that surrounds homelessness.”
