IAE Hire: Business Supported by CCBC in Moving From Hong Kong to Caerphilly

IAE Hire are a business that supply, hire and manufacture scaffolding systems for business and household consumer hire.

Business owner Michael Wong and his colleague Ben Williams moved into the Ty Du business units in August 2022 after originally being based in Hong Kong.

Last year, the manufacturing side of the business had been running for over 16 years in Hong Kong with over 150 employees. There are now plans to develop manufacturing in this country.

An important push for their business is training in how to use the equipment and keeping the nation safe at heights. IAE Hire have developed designs in order for load bearing platforms to be used for storage and easy access when working at heights. They have also just had a delivery of three containers full of newly manufactured stock.

The business will soon be looking to appoint apprentices, as well as recruiting in sales and accounting roles.

Caerphilly County Borough Council were initially approached by the Welsh Government’s Trade and Invest Economy, Treasury and Constitution Group in June 2022 to support the business which was relocating to Caerphilly.

Sarah Gaze, CCBC’s International Trade Support Officer supported them with the move here, membership of Caerphilly Business Club, networking opportunities (such as the Construction Hub), and export opportunities out of Wales. Sarah has also been a valuable source in providing information and support with insight into future grant opportunities to develop their online sales systems, recruitment, and training of new members of staff. Adam Sadler, Principal Business Development Officer from BERT has also worked closely with them.

Ben Williams, of IAE Hire, said “The benefit of the Business Enterprise Renewal Team has been immense. From the stability to trade, the networking to local businesses and groups, help with grant information, event and exhibition opportunities, Sarah and Adam have been there to help us bridge the gap of working in a new country and to grow our business.”
