Success for Penallta Reuse Shop’s first Toy Flash Sale
Posted on : 23 Dec 2022
Penallta Reuse Shop’s “fill a bag for £1” toy sale has proven successful.
Earlier this year Penallta Reuse Shop and Wastesavers launched an urgent appeal asking residents to donate used and unwanted toys on the lead up to Christmas. Donated toys, along with children’s books and DVDs were then used in toy flash sale.
The toy sale allowed shoppers to fill a bag with sale items for just £1, with all money raised being donated to Caerphilly Food Bank.
The sale, which took place on Saturday 3rd and Saturday 10th December, resulted in 63 bags of toys being sold.
Cllr. Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste said: “We are thrilled to know that so many families benefited from Penallta Reuse Shop’s toy flash sale.
“This initiative really embodies everything that Penallta Reuse Shop represents, with used toys being donated and sold on to those who need them, at incredible prices, with all proceeds going back into the community through local charities.”
Alun Harries, Charity Manager with Wastesavers said; “The public response to our call for donations was fantastic. We had thousands of toys donated and we wish to thank everybody who took part. Many of these toys would almost certainly have ended up in recycling skips– they have now found a good home.”
“This first Christmas “£1 a bag of toys” sale far exceeded our expectations, it really has helped make Christmas a bit more affordable for many families in these tough times.”
