Caerphilly CBC reaffirms commitment to promote tolerance and inclusion
Posted on : 19 May 2021
Caerphilly County Borough Council have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting tolerance and inclusion in the workplace. Councillors of the local authority will participate in a member’s seminar that will reflect upon the actions of the council since signing the charter – while discussing how moving forward the council can continue to operate in a way in which encourages inclusion and promotes tolerance.
Last year, Caerphilly County Borough Council joined together with Trade Union partners, Unite, Unison and GMB to work – to work towards achieving a shared goal of increasing tolerance and equality in the workplace.
The ‘Unity over Division’ Charter was the first of its kind by a local authority in Wales and set the standard for other authorities to follow. The Charter commits the Local Authority to work in partnership with trade unions to promote a more tolerant and inclusive place of work, with race equality at its heart.
Cllr Philippa Marsden, the Leader of Council who will be in attendance, commented:
“The signing of the ‘Unity over Division’ Charter was a landmark occasion as Caerphilly became the first local authority to commit to this charter last year. The charter formalises the commitment and dedication that we as a local authority have to promote tolerance and respect amongst our large and diverse workforce.
The upcoming member’s seminar will give Caerphilly’s councillors the opportunity to reflect and to learn how as an employer, we can continue to promote tolerance and encourage inclusion to ensure that Caerphilly continues to lead the way as an employer that promotes tolerance.”
