Work officially begins on Caerphilly’s new market - Ffos Caerffili

Ground has been broken on the Cardiff Road location ahead of it’s opening in Autumn 2023

Caerphilly County Borough Council has broken ground at the location of Ffos Caerffili Market, marking the start of the regeneration work in Caerphilly – thanks to a financial partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council and Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns initiative. The progress marks the beginning of the wider Caerphilly 2035 Placemaking plan.

To mark the occasion, Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cllr Sean Morgan, Hamish Munro of Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Lancer Scott team got together to officially put the first spade in the ground.

Cllr Sean Morgan, Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, and Cllr Jamie Pritchard have both been instrumental in making this project a reality, ensuring that the needs and desires of the local community are considered, and that the market is developed in a sustainable and inclusive way.
Deputy leader of the council, Councillor James Pritchard said;

“It’s great to see the development under way. We have worked closely with our partners at Welsh Government, and now that the shovels are in the ground, we can really get excited about Ffos Caerffili opening its doors later this year. We can’t wait!”

Construction company Lancer Scott’s Operations Manager Adam Bidhendy updated on their progress and further explained their plans, which include a wheel-wash area and weekly road sweepers to maintain a clean site and town centre. The team are eager to keep residents informed of the progress on the site via a notice board, face-to-face conversations with those passing by and delivering letters to locals who may affected by the disruption.

Councillor Sean Morgan said; “The Coronavirus Pandemic stalled many of our ambitious projects. Marking the start of the work here today at the exciting Ffos Caerffili market project, shows our intention to deliver on projects throughout the Borough”

The Ffos Caerffili project was made possible thanks to Caerphilly County Borough Council and a grant from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme. Transforming Towns is focussed on improving biodiversity and green infrastructure; repurposing neglected properties; increasing flexible working and living space; and providing access to services.
