Caerphilly Council wins at prestigious Welsh Housing Awards
Caerphilly County Borough Council won the ‘Communications in a Crisis’ category at this year’s prestigious Welsh Housing Awards.

The annual awards, hosted by the Chartered Institute of Housing in Wales (CIH Cymru), celebrate the achievements and innovation made across the housing sector in Wales and the impact they have on the lives of so many.

The Council won the award for its approach to communicating with tenants during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic; which saw staff work flexibly and innovatively to reach all tenants.  This was vital in getting key messages to tenants and making them aware of changes to services, but also ensuring that no vulnerable person was left without support during what was an extremely challenging time for many.

Its Tenancy Support Service was also shortlisted for ‘Housing Team of the Year’ at the awards, in recognition of their dedication to supporting some of the borough most vulnerable residents during times of financial difficulty.

Cllr Shayne Cook, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said “Supporting our tenants during times of crisis has never been more important and to be recognised for our efforts at the Welsh Housing Awards is a fantastic achievement.  My congratulations and thanks to everyone involved.”
