Council services

Residents are encouraged to give their views on which services Caerphilly County Borough Council should prioritise over the next few years, as part of the council’s far reaching engagement programme ‘The Caerphilly Conversation’.

Through the ongoing Caerphilly Conversation over the last couple of years, the council has been keen to identify which council services are the most important to its communities. In turn, residents have identified the areas they think should be prioritised.

These views have helped the council in prioritising the things it is able to deliver. Residents’ views have helped to:

  • Continue focussing efforts on the issues that residents said most impacted upon their quality of life – such as dog fouling, littering and overgrowth/weeds
  • Shape a programme of 10 council-wide ‘corporate reviews’ that aim to make sure the council is as effective as it can be
  • Ensure the services the council delivers are in line with what residents and their families most need

However, this ongoing conversation is more important than ever before. Like all councils in Wales and across the UK, the council only has a limited budget and is facing a gap of £35 million in next year’s budget alone.

Cllr Sean Morgan, Leader of the Council said, “It is hard to appreciate the scale of the challenge we are facing, but we are fortunate to be in a strong position to face these challenges head-on. The council has healthy reserves where a proportion of these can be used in the event of a ‘rainy day’.

“In order that we can protect the things that are most needed and valued, we need residents to tell us if we’re still on the right tracks – and tell us what really matters to them and their families. What they tell us will be really important, as we make plans and take decisions around developing our council priorities for the next few years and where we spend our money”.

To attend one of these sessions, please email publicengagement@caerphilly.gov.uk with the preferred date, and a link to attend the online session will be provided.

Come along and meet the team between 11am and 3pm at:  

  • Ystrad Mynach Festive Fair (Saturday 19th November)
  • Blackwood Winter Fair (Saturday 26th November) and
  • Caerphilly Christmas Market (Saturday 3rd December)

Hard copies of the survey are also available for collection from and return once completed to all Caerphilly county borough libraries.

Please have a say by Tuesday 6th December to ensure feedback can be incorporated into the council’s plans. Further engagement opportunities will continue in the New Year and beyond.
