Plastic
You can recycle the following:
- Detergent bottles
- Pop bottles
- Butter tubs
- Yogurt pots
- Milk bottles
Sorry, we cannot recycle:
- DIY and chemical bottles
- Paint containers
- Plastic sheet
- Polystyrene
- Toys and other hard plastic
- Carrier bags
- CDS and DVDs
- Coat hangers
Cans
You can recycle the following:
- Aerosols (preferably empty deodorant cans only)
- Beer cans
- Pop cans
- Food tins
- Dog food tins
- Clean aluminium foil
Sorry, we cannot recycle:
- Food contaminated aluminium foil
- Scrap metal
- Cutlery
- Pots and pans
Cardboard
You can recycle the following:
- Dry cardboard packaging
- Cereal boxes
- Greetings cards (as long as there is no glitter or other non-recyclable material glued to the card)
- Egg boxes
- Pizza boxes
- Ready meal boxes
- Washing powder boxes
Sorry, we cannot recycle:
- Cardboard that has been covered in food
- Wet cardboard
Glass
You can recycle the following:
- Beer bottles
- Jars
- Wine bottles
- Medicine bottles
- Sauce bottles

- Broken glass
- Crockery
- Pyrex
- Visionware
- Window glass

​Need a new bin?
If your wheelie bin is lost, stolen or damaged, or if you have moved into a property that does not have any bins, you can purchase one online. Request a new wheeled bin, box or garden sack.
Bin contamination
We monitor the contents of your recycling bins to make sure materials are being placed into the correct containers. If your bin is found to be contaminated with non-recyclable materials, a sticker will be placed on your bin and will not be emptied until you have removed these contaminants. Clothing and textiles
Clothing should not be placed in your recycling bin. Clothing banks are available at our household waste recycling centres. You could also take the clothing along to your local charity shop.
Where does the waste go?
Once recycling is collected from your home it is taken to a recovery facility where the materials are sorted and separated to be made into new products.
Participation monitoring
From time-to-time the waste management department will undertake participation monitoring on food/garden, recycling and residual waste. We have recently completed a food waste participation monitoring exercise but in the past have monitored recycling to determine which properties are/are not participating. Residual waste may be monitored to ensure additional or inappropriate waste is not being placed out for collection. These campaigns ensure we can target our education, advice and guidance to residents who may require further assistance, with appropriate levels of enforcement if necessary.
