Mega Drive

The Mega drive project is organised by our Road Safety Team and funded by the Welsh Government.

The road safety scheme is aimed at pre-drivers aged 16+ in order to educate them on how to be responsible car users, whether they are a passenger or the driver.

The students are offered a 15 minute taster driving lesson for them to become accustomed with operating a car as a part of the event. This helps to prepare them for any future driving lessons and often gives students their first experience of being in the driving seat.

A number of organisations take part in the event and educate the students on car safety and what to do in emergency situations.

  • Drug and Alcohol Youth Support service (DAYS) talks of the dangers of driving whilst under the influence of drugs and the dire consequences that could result.

  • Both Gwent Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service hold talks on the Fatal Five, which are the five main causes of road traffic collisions in Wales. These are speeding, alcohol, drugs, mobile phones and seatbelts. The Police make students aware of the legal consequences if you act illegally in a vehicle, whilst the Fire Service covers the emotional consequences of a person’s actions within a car.

  • The Fire and Rescue Service deliver The Domino Effect presentation. This hard hitting educational tool is a means of educating drivers, as well as passengers on the effects that one road traffic collision can have on many lives.
