UKSPF Business Grants

The Business Development Fund provides targeted financial assistance to new and existing enterprises throughout the County Borough to help small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) in Wales relaunch, develop, decarbonise and grow to help drive Wales’ economic recovery.

The Business Development Fund aims to supports a wide range of development activities with a focus on helping enterprises achieve their long-term business ambitions, through quantifiable economic, environmental and social outputs that will add value to their operations through an enhancement of their production, service and output capabilities.

Businesses are asked to identify ways in which the investment will help them re-launch their business, develop it in innovative new ways, and create new jobs.

Projects should link to the Supporting Local Business Investment Priorities for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund Levelling Up Agenda, and relate to Missions 1, 2 and 9.

  • Mission 1 - By 2030, pay, employment and productivity will have risen in every area of the UK, with each containing a globally competitive city, with the gap between the top performing and other area closing. 
  • Mission 2 - By 2030, domestic public investment in Research & Development outside the Greater Southeast will increase by at least 40% and at least one third over the Spending Revenue period, with that additional government funding seeking to leverage at least twice as much private sector investment over the long term to stimulate innovation and productivity growth.
  • Mission 9 - By 2030, pride in place, such as people’s satisfaction with their Town Centre and engagement in local culture and community, will have risen in every area of the UK, with the gap between the top performing and other areas closing. 

The Fund will also look to support businesses to tackle some of the major issues facing Wales, such as ensuring fair work for employees and tackling climate change and help Wales meet its legally binding Net Zero carbon emission target by 2050.

Business Development & Support (Revenue)

The grant for this will be a maximum of 50% of reasonable eligible costs, up to a maximum grant award of £5,000 exclusive of VAT (if applicable). Each application will be considered based on its specific circumstances.  If applying for help with a new staff members costs (max up to £2,000) evidence will need to be provided to show is a new starter taken on for a minimum of 16 hours per week, paid at least minimum wage.  Evidence to support his such as Staff contract, start date and confirmation of enrolment onto a PAYE system (or similar) will be required to draw down the grant award. 

Business Development & Support (Capital)

The grant for this Theme will be a maximum of 50% of reasonable eligible costs, up to a maximum grant award of £25,000 exclusive of VAT (if applicable). Each application will be considered based on its specific circumstances.

Business Development & Support (Capital & Revenue)

For business looking to apply for a mixture of both elements the maximum Grant for the Revenue element will be £5,000 exclusive of VAT (if applicable) and the maximum grant for the Capital element will be £20,000 making a maximum total as a whole award of £25,000.

The Business Start Up Grant provides targeted financial assistance to new enterprises throughout the County Borough to help them launch, and develop, their new venture to help drive Wales’ economic recovery.

The Business Start Up Grant aims to support a wide range of activities with a focus on helping enterprises achieve their business ambitions, through quantifiable economic, environmental and social outputs that will add value to their operations.

Businesses are asked to identify ways in which the investment will help them launch their business, develop it in innovative new ways, and create new jobs. 

Projects should link to the Supporting Local Business Investment Priorities for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund Levelling Up Agenda, and relate to Missions 1, 2 and 9 (see Below)

All grants are at the discretion of the Council and are subject to budget availability. The amount of grant offered will be assessed on an individual project basis, taking into account of the economic, environmental and social benefits arising. There is limited allocation of grant funding and will be awarded on a competitive basis.
