Computers and wifi

If you are a member of the library you can use the Internet and Microsoft Office software in all our libraries.

We also provide Free Wifi access at Abercarn, Abertridwr, Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Nelson, Newbridge, Whiterose, Rhymney, Risca and Ystrad Mynach.

Although booking is not essential we recommend that you book a computer in advance by contacting the library.

We offer the following facilities on all our library computers:

  • Internet access
  • Microsoft Word for word processing
  • Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets
  • Microsoft PowerPoint for presentations
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF documents
  • Shortcuts to our online databases
  • Access from the desktop to our library catalogue
  • Printing - most libraries offer both black and white and colour printing
  • Scanning

You can use USB devices to save your work. Printouts cost 10p per page for A4 and A3 in black and white and 50p for A4 and A3 in colour.

We also offer free access to paid-for sites such as Ancestry, Theory Test Pro and Britannica. You can see a list of these sites on the library catalogue homepage.

Computer training

Whatever your level of computer skills, your local library will have something to offer you.

1-2-1 computer session

'Taster sessions' on a number of different topics to get you started. These include, computers for absolute beginners, internet and email, word processing and online family history classes.

The scheme offers one to one training and will improve confidence using a PC. Contact your local library for details

Digital Fridays

Open access, drop-in sessions at various locations across Caerphilly for  anyone who needs support to get online or use technology.  The sessions are suitable for anyone (16+) and are relaxed and informal.

Community education courses

Learndirect

Caerphilly Library Service is working in partnership with the WEA and local colleges to provide students access to Learn Direct courses on the internet for FREE.

Adult Learners Week

Every year during May, libraries in Caerphilly county borough hold a week of events that offer free learning taster sessions.
