Caerphilly County Borough Council encourage staff to make the change to electric vehicles

Electric vehicle chargers have been installed at two Caerphilly County Borough Council office sites.

22 new dual 7kWh electric vehicle chargers have been installed at Ty Penallta and Tir-y-Berth sites.

Whilst the new infrastructure was installed to support the transition of CCBC fleet vehicle to Ultra Low Emission Vehicles, in aid of the Council’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable transport, the charging points have also been made available for staff and visitors to use for their personal vehicles.

7kWh electric vehicle chargers offer fast charging which is suitable for fleet vehicles to be charged overnight, whilst also providing a “top up” for additional vehicles throughout the day. It is estimated that at least 100 fleet vehicles could be supported by the 22 twin charging points.

CCBC staff and visitors who wish to use the charging points will be charged at a rate the authority pays for electricity plus some small admin fees. This may be cheaper than the cost of charging at home.

Councillor Jamie Pritchard, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration & Climate Change said: “We are thrilled to announce that these new electric vehicle charge points are now operational.”

“This is a milestone for CCBC in transitioning our fleet vehicles to Ultra Low Emission Vehicles, in line with our mission to be a carbon neutral authority by 2030. We also hope that the new charging points will encourage more CCBC staff to consider purchasing electric vehicles, as well as assisting current owners.”
